Jennifer Horton - Pro Shop Administrator

Today, Jennifer is making her final putt as the Pro Shop Administrator at SkyRidge Golf Course.

She is relocating to be with her fiancé. But don't be surprised when you see her back at The Ridge for a visit. She'll either be in the clubhouse having a delicious B.L.T. or trying to kick her Grandpa Jim's booty on the golf course. All the best to you, Jennifer. Thank you for your hardwork. You will be missed.

"I've said it countless times, but I'll say it again. The people who come here are family. I love these folks with all my heart. And I am going to miss you so much. Keep in touch, and I'll see you on the greens soon... 'Cuz I'm doin' nine holes walkin' or eighteen if I feel fierce. I got no other plans for the day, 'cept maybe an ice cold beer. I'm gonna hang out with my friends, have ourselves a few good laughs, 'cuz no one on Earth knows how much time that they have.' I love you guys." ~ Jennifer  11/22/2019

If you're looking to get in a round on Saturday, come on down. We'll remain open to the public, but know it will be a 4-person pace of play until 2pm.  There are approximately sixteen UPS participants signed up thus far.

SKYRIDGE'S ANNUAL MERCHANT LEAGUE

Merchant League Season is starting at SkyRidge Golf Course on July 2nd and will run into mid-September.

Every Tuesday night at 5:30pm, teams of friends, co-workers, SkyRidge Members, visitors from other golf courses, and people who just have a love of the game, team up and battle it out at 7015 Old Olympic Hwy, trying their best to futher their team toward the title of Merchant League Champs.

Players typically start arriving at 4pm, grab their complimentary basket of range balls and start warming up their long and short game. It's twilight golf, so the rate is $15.00/player for nine holes and we reduce the cart rate to $5.00 per cart seat. A lot of the players hang out afterward, and grab a bite to eat or a beverage in our café, rounding out the evening with laughter and jest.

Because it is a shotgun start during Merchant League, we are not open to the public after 5:30pm on Tuesday evening. Sorry for any inconvenience. So if you want to get out there and play on a Tuesday afternoon, depending on how quickly you can get in nine holes, we recommend you arrive no later than 4pm.

Merchant League at SkyRidge is a fun tradition and makes for some beautiful time outside. Check us out next year, and get on a roster and maybe your team will rise to the top as Merchant League Champions!

Join us for the All You Can Eat Breakfast Buffet in Soren's Café at SkyRidge Golf Course on Sunday, September 15th at 10:00 A.M. while the Seahawks take on the Steelers!

It was a full field of play on an absolutely stunning January day. There was a slight frost delay, but people remained energetic and the tourney kicked off at ten to 10am. The mountains were visible all day, there was no breeze, the sun was warm and players were in a chipper mood all day. Celebration of Life

Don Newberg

August 4th, 2018 at SkyRidge Golf Course

An excerpt written by our Dad concerning his funeral arrangement...

"I hope, and pray that it will be a time of rejoicing, and not a time of sorrow. Rejoice in knowing that I've gone to a better place and that I'm with the Lord, with your mother, grandmother, and friends. All I ask, and pray, is that our separation will only be temporary and that you make absolutely sure that you eventually join us."

The 2-Day, 2-Person Blind Draw, Better Ball

Memorial Weekend Tournament

The month of May brings about many situations to celebrate and recognize. May Day, May the 4th Be With You, Cinco de Mayo, the Sequim Irrigation Festival, Mother's Day, Armed Services, and Memorial Day. We at SkyRidge Golf Course believe it to be very important to take a weekend to honor our fallen soldiers during our 2-Day Memorial Weekend Blind-Draw, 2-Person Better Ball Tournament. Come on down for two days of golf on Sunday, May 27th and Monday, May 28th.

Format:  Start Times are 8:30am both days from tees #1 and #7 / 18 holes of stroke play from the green tees with your group. At the end of play, all the names of the participants will be put into a hat and drawn to determine the partners for each day. (You will not have the same partner for both days.) Payout is individual by Net score for the two day total.

Details:  Greens Fees  ~  $40.00 for both days of golf, $20.00 for the honey pot, and $10.00 for Lunch on Monday. Thus, the total regular fees are $70.00 for both days. Annual Members and Employee's fees are $30.00. Sign up in the ProShop.

SkyRidge Member, Rich Burlingame shot a Hole-In-One on Friday, May 4th!

He was on hole #10 using a Callaway Steelhead Pitching Wedge to hit a Srixon ball.

Neither he nor his golfing buddy, Dan Abbott, were aware that the ball had gone in the hole approximately 115 yards away. SkyRidge Volunteer, Bill Bailey informed them because he saw it happen as he was maitenancing the bunkers!

Congratulations, Rich! Well done! And May the Fourth Be With You!  ;)

Okay, so how many golfers does it take to... Just kidding. :)

After another fun successful Bayshore Tournament, the SkyRidge Employees and Volunteers set to work on aerating the greens. It wouldn't be a SkyRidge greens-punching experience without a mechanical snafu; and Murphy's Law was abundant with them. A broken belt on the puncher required four trips into Sequim on the first afternoon before the right one was found. Thus, the crew was delayed several hours. Then, our loner tractor got stuck in neutral which slowed things up on day two. But, our intrepid group at The Ridge persevered and finished the daunting task that had stretched out before them; and no one went to the hospital. Chalk that up to a win!

Not all the volunteers are pictured but here's who helped:  Bill Bailey, Bud Bowling, Brian Cays, Matthew Cays, Kenny Chace, Britt Claussen, Steve Hall, Don Heinkel, Matthew Huswick, Bobby Kelly, Jim Lounsberry, "Munch", John Naples, Shane Price, and Pete Young,    and along with Jeff, Jerry, and Marty Pedersen. And finally, a huge "Thank You" to Del Gott at Diamond Construction for the use of the tractor and to Tess Taylor for feeding this selfless crew.

Two-Person Scramble  ~  Shot gun start  ~  Green Tees

Two Divisions:  Gross and Net Winners.

30% of combined handicap  /  Maximum 10 stroke differential  /  3 drives each nine per player (6 total)

$80.00 per team:  Includes Range Balls, KP's, and Lunch.

Aside from their love of and dedication to the game of golf, the thirty participants of SkyRidge's SPRING OPENER had one more thing in common; on Friday night, they were all thinking the same thing... Is it ever going to stop raining?! Some prayed, some cursed, and some even pouted. And it was, perhaps, this collective effort of energy flooding the cosmos that finally brought about a pause to the rains.

Golfers arrived bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as the day started out with a bright, warm sun and blue skies. Fifteen teams of two competed. Net scores were based off 30% of the two-some's combined handicaps. Gary Thorne and Mark Mitrovich won by a landslide 7 strokes, shooting a gross & net score of 60! That is 12 under Par! Owner Jeff Pedersen and SRGC Member Shane Price took first net with their 60.7, followed closely by members Jerry Pedersen and Kenny Chace with their 60.9. Newcomers Danny Romero and Mark Hash brought it home for the third net and final payout with their 64.4. Well done, Guys! And a big "Thanks" to Don Purser and Kenny Chace for introducing these guys to SkyRidge and Soren's Café. But these great scores weren't the only events of note... Bob Kelly sank a 50' putt, clinching the long putt award from Josh Koester at the very end of the day. Sorry Josh, but Well Done, Bobby!

The golfers found themselves being coaxed in by the unmistakable scent of BBQ burgers on the charbroil grill. Tess prepared her amazing, homemade red potato and macaroni salads, and put out all the trimmings for BBQ burgers and dogs. Then our good friend, Lance, volunteered to barbecue burgers and dogs for the golfers. Nothing quite makes people feel like spring and summer are on their way like a BBQ on the back patio with good friends.

The sky danced grey and blue all day long, but the weather held until 3:45pm. By then, everyone had eaten, scores had been tallied, and awards disseminated. It was a fun, energized gathering of friendly athletes. A diamond-in-the-rough kind-of-a day.

Thank you to everyone who rang in a Sequim spring day and made this tourney happen. We hope to see more of you this season.

Well, the opinions are in... The GutBuster was hard! This last Saturday's game (3/24/2018) was played from the Black Tees to the most challenging pin placements. 19 golfers turned out for the tournament and it was won by Ken Chace with an 82 gross. Ages 30 to 85 were represented and everyone played from the "tips"! Well done! It was a chilly day, but the sun shined the whole time. Many players were heard saying the back nine was hard this year. "Hole #6 had the 'Clown's Mouth Effect'. Every time I chipped the ball up to the pin, the ball would crest the mound and roll almost all the way to the water." ~ Mike Tipton (member)

Despite it being a hard fought, long yardage game, for all participants, the golfers made good time on the course. The first tee time was 9am and the first people off the greens got in at 2pm. Everyone was in fine spirits as they filed into the clubhouse after play, where the classic GutBuster meal awaited them  ~  6oz sirloin, shrimp, twice-baked, loaded potatoes, mushroom au jus, Ceasar salad, and potato dinner rolls. The compliments abound for cook, Tess Taylor!

On behalf of the SkyRidge Golf Course staff and volunteers, "Thank You" to everyone who came out to prep the course for the tourney and another Big GutBuster "Thank You" to the golfers who participated in the tourney. It was a fun day of golf, guys!

Test your iron(s) from the tips to the most challenging pin placements!

This year's St. Paddy's Day Tourney was a lot of fun. It was well-attended by a skillful and eclectic blend of golfers from an assortment of golf clubs on the Olympic Peninsula. We had golfers from not only SkyRidge, but Cedars at Dungeness, Peninsula Golf Club, and Port Townsend Golf Club; and the competition was fierce! The Thorne & Mitrovich team took the win with a scramble score of 59, or 13 under par! Great Job, Guys! The group was comprised of Mark Mitrovich, Gary and Russ Thorne, and Adam Carignan. But this win came by a mere 2 strokes! Jerry Pedersen, Kenny Chace, Shane Price, and Josh Koester, all SkyRidge Golf Course Members, golfed a 61 Gross and a 56.2 Net, earning them 3rd Net. A group of ladies took 1st Net with a score of 55.8! Well done, Kathy Langston, Bobbie Piety, Marine Hirschfeld, and Emily Cook. And as ever, it's always great when our friends from Port Townsend participate in the tournaments. Chris, Doug, and Brian Lux, as well as Mark Ajax hail from Port Townsend Golf Club, and Mark Lux came from the other side of the pond for moral support. They took 2nd Net as well as the Long Putt win on hole 18 with the infamous "Shillelagh." With a knotty wooden stick, Doug Lux made a putt from 52'4" away. "I saw the guy in front of me hit it and make it about a third of the way. I swung like it was a hockey stick. There were witnesses."

27-Hole Winter Links Open

Saturday, February 17th, 2018

9:00am Shotgun Start (barring any frost)

$160 per team  ~ Includes Greens Fee, Range Balls, 4 KP's, LP's, and Lunch after Play,

Optional Honey Pot  ~  $80.00 / team.  Power carts offered  ~  $15.00 / seat.

Scoring & Format:

Green Tees only. Establish a four-person team; divide that team into (2) two-person teams for a 9-hole "Scramble";  switch partners and play nine holes of 2-person "Better Ball". Finally, switch to your final partner and play "Alternating Shot" for the last 9 holes. Each team will end up with a 54-hole score after 27 holes of golf... i.e. Each team will write down the two Scramble scores for the first nine holes, giving you an 18-hole score. Switch partners, then write down the two Better Ball scores for the second nine holes, giving you another 18-hole sore. Switching to your last partner, record both Alternanting Shot scores for the last 18-hole score. Combine these scores for your 54-Hole total. (216 is Par for 54 Holes.)

Each team must have a total Team Handicap of 24.0 or greater. Handicap will be determined by giving each 2-person team 15% of their added total for the Scramble, 25% of their full handicap for the Better Ball, and 20% of their added total for the Alternating Shot format. Example:  If your team has two players that total 20 and the other group has 15, your handicap for the Scramle will be 3 & 2.3 / for the Better Ball... 5 & 3.8, and for the Alternating Shot... 4 & 3.

Congratulations on your RETIREMENT, A.P.!

Allen Patton has been with SkyRidge Golf Course since approximately 2 months after it opened. He is known asjack-of-all-trades and answers to "MacGyver". From mowing to maitenance and Soren's Café to the ProShop, Allen has done everything! Owner, Jeff Pedersen started delegating the role of Superintendent to A.P. about ten years ago and he has showed up faithfully and worked hard every day.

Allen can reminisce on the days when SkyRidge "was just a cow pasture," but now he finds himself amazed at how far the course has come and how well it's developed over the last fourteen years. And A.P. has been hugely instrumental in making that happen. He has watched a generation of golfers grow up on the course and is a dear friend to all SkyRidge members. Allen has assured us that he will be here regularly to make Monday Mochas for the team of volunteers and keep up on his golf game.

A.P., "Thank You" for all your years of service, support, skills, and love.
